AWARDS NOMINATIONS
Instructions and Guidelines
PURPOSE
The Latino Education Advisory Council strongly believes that awards/recognition in some form is a vital tool in building self-esteem. We believe that such awards:
*Encourage and develop self-improvement
*Create motivation
*Enhance relationships amongst schools, parents, students, and the business community.
*Highlight the positive work within the Denver Public Schools Latino Community.
ELIGIBILITY
Anyone may nominate an individual who is actively involved in the Latino community, regardless of ethnicity.
GUIDELINES AND INSTRUCTIONS
Nominees for Student, Educator, and Parent Awards must be Students, Educators, Administrators, or Parents in Denver Public Schools.
The nominees may have made a contribution to the education of Latino students/Latino community on a short or long term basis, or in the past.
No more than 2 nominations per nominator.
Current members and staff of LEAC are not eligible for LEAC awards.
Winners will be selected by an Awards Committee.
K-5 will be catagorized as Elementary, Grades 6-8 will be catagorized as Middle School, Grades 9-12 will be catagorized as High School; regardless if the nominee is involved in/attends a K-8 School or Combined Middle and High School.
All winners and nominees will be recognized at the awards ceremony.
Photos taken at the Awards Ceremony may be used for LEAC Awards Program promotional puposes. Nominee names may also be used.
Awards Program
PURPOSE
This awards program is designed to recognize Latino students, educators, parents and community members/business owners.
DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS: FRIDAY APRIL 2, 2010
NOMINEES, NOMINATORS AND WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, APRIL 9TH.
Awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2010
6:00 pm- 8:00 pm
El Centro Su Teatro
721 Santa Fe Dr., Denver, CO 80273
(All Winners & Nominees will be recognized at the ceremony)
"OUTSTANDING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AWARD"
6 STUDENTS TOTAL WILL BE SELECTED.
2 FROM EACH LEVEL; ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL.
We are asking school staff to identify students who they feel deserve recognition in any area of school life, that makes them a "stand out" student. (Can include academically, being a role model to their peers etc. )
"EDUCATOR EXCELLENCE AWARD"
3 EDUCATORS WILL BE SELECTED.
1 FROM EACH LEVEL; ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL
We are asking parents, students, and educators to identify educators who have excelled above and beyond their duties as an educator. These individuals think outside the box in their approach to educating and ensuring success for Latino students.
"PARENT INVOLVEMENT AWARD"
3 PARENTS WILL BE SELECTED
1 FROM EACH LEVEL; ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL
We are asking teachers, and administrators to identify parents who are involved in their child's school. These parents are always willing to contribute; and act as a positive role model for students, teachers and other parents.
"COMMUNITY/BUSINESS LEADER AWARD"
1 PERSON/ORGANIZATION WILL BE SELECTED FOR ALL LEVELS
We are asking parents, students, educators and administrators to identify a person or group that has been involved in a Denver Public School and have gone above and beyond to improve the educational experience for Latino students. May include: providing programs, making monetary donations or other involvement.
